Knitsley farm boasts a new bakery which was added earlier this summer (2012). The bakery is sited in the upstairs of the former ‘old granary’ which was built in the late 1700’s for the purpose of storing grain for animal feed.
Our bakery team produce all the breads for the farm shop and cafe/ restaurant from scratch, using very traditional techniques. These techniques involve the inclusion of sourdough (pre-ferment) to most of the artisan breads which give the intense caramelisation and characteristic complex flavours. Our breads are also baked in traditional stone based bread ovens every morning.
Along with artisan breads we also produce everyday breads including soft buns, stotties, white, brown, wholemeal loafs and bloomers. The bakery also produces a range of fruit loaves, tea cakes, tarts, cakes, traybakes and other sweet treats all of which boast to be free of preservatives and additives. Orders can be taken for any of our bakery products, any specific requirements will be gladly discussed with a member of the bakery team.
